My son really wants to learn to play the drums so I think these drumstick pencils are the perfect starting point while I save for...

Start with Rock Band or guitar hero. The drums are the one thing that actually teaches you as you muck around. I found all my lessons from childhood coming back and really getting into. Great to jam with the kids, although, the silence pads are needed for the drum kit because you do get into it.
